Out to find Freedom

By Lila Rose

Death and pain.
They surround me. Hold me hostage, refusing to let go.
But I want to survive. Want to fight. I just don’t know if I have it in me.
Maybe dying would be better.
It’s the break in the shadows that gives me hope.
When I look at him, all I can see is light.
So now I’m out to find freedom.

Private investigator Ryan Warden doesn’t know he’s moved next door to people he would put behind bars in an instant. Nor does he realise a sleepless night could lead him on the right track with the case he’s working on.
He certainly doesn’t expect Emerson Spence.
What he does know is he has to stay away from her. She’s been beaten and broken. She deserves to live freely while learning and experiencing things in life like any young woman should.
He’s too old for her. It’s better to stay away.
If he can.

Review

Warden is one of those characters that pops in and out of books throughout a series just to tease you. Warden always made me curious, and I kept wondering; what’s his story? And will he get a book?

And finally his book is live!

To list all the things I liked about this book would probably take forever, but I assure you – I really really liked this book.

Emerson comes home unexpectedly one night and sees something she really shouldn’t have. And this is the beginning of her nightmare, a nightmare that spans several years. Warden moves in next door, and she is instantly fascinated. She spend time watching and listening and eventually they have small conversations through texting. But I really don’t want to say too much about this story, I wouldn’t do it justice.

Emotional read

This story started  way darker than I’m used to from this author. But don’t worry, it may start as a nightmare but it ends up being more like a fairytale. It’s about surviving horror and coming out of it not only stronger, but also being able to enjoy life and finding good people, friendships and love. It was a pretty emotional read, and I loved that the romance part was a slow burn because this book needed that. Most importantly, both Emerson and Warden needed the slow burn.

I’d been out to find freedom, and I had. But how lucky was I that I’d found it with the man I loved.

And can I just say that I love Julian? He is my absolute favourite, especially after this book. On that note, it’s time for me to stop rambling. Happy reading 🙂
